Yamaha guitars are quality instruments that deliver excellent value. We enthusiastically recommend Yamaha guitars for beginning and intermediate students.
The Minor Chord is proud to be a Yamaha Rosewood Dealer, placing us in the top tier of independent Yamaha guitar dealers. We stock a broad range of Yamaha models and our prices are competitive with chain-store and online sellers. For complete information about Yamaha guitars, please see the Yamaha Guitars web page.
We normally stock all of the models described below. As a Rosewood dealer we can order any other model in the Yamaha line - just ask us to quote price and delivery.
The F325 is Yamaha's most affordable full-size Dreadnaught guitar. It is constructed with laminated meranti back and sides and a laminated spruce top. This is a very rugged and durable instrument - a great choice for a beginner or for someone who may not pay close attention to environmental issues like temperature and humidity that can stress a solid-top guitar.
The F325 is available in a natural finish (shown) or a tobacco sunburst finish.
The FG700S is a great choice in a full-size guitar and one of our best selling models. It has a Dreadnaught-style body with nato back and sides and a solid spruce top. The solid top gives this guitar a richer, fuller sound compared to the F325 - and the sound will get still better as the wood ages and breaks in.
The FG700S is Yamaha's most affordable solid-top Dreadnaught. If you are looking for a full-sized Dreadnaught, you can't go wrong with this model!
Like the FG700S above, the FG720S is an affordable Dreadnaught with a solid spruce top. We stock this model only in the left-handed version because the FG700S is not available left-handed.
Compared to the FG700S, the lefty FG720S upgrades the back and sides to laminated mahogany and adds a cream-colored binding with black purfling around the body and neck.
The FG720S is a favorite with our beginner to intermediate lefty customers.
The FG720S-12 is another great-selling Yamaha favorite. It will give you that bell-like sound that 12-strings are famous for. It has a solid spruce top, laminated mahogany back and sides, and a 1-7/8 inch nut.
Where this model stands out is its low easy-playing action. Compared to other 12-strings in its price range, we feel that the FG720S-12 is a clear winner.
The FG730S represents the top of the Yamaha 'FG' line. This is a full-size dreadnaught constructed with rosewood back and sides and a solid Sitka spruce top. The abalone rosette looks fantastic with the vintage cherry-tone sunburst finish.
This is a full-sounding guitar with a clear tone.
The FS700S is our best-selling guitar in the entire store, and for good reason! For a player looking for an instrument a bit smaller than a dreadnaught, this is the perfect combination of size, sound and price.
The neck is standard length and profile but the body shape is trimmed down a bit compared to a dreadnaught, making the FS700S a good choice for the younger player or the adult who prefers an instrument with a bit less bulk.
Unlike cheap beginner guitars, this has a solid Sitka spruce top with a natural finish and laminated nato back and sides giving it a clear, resonant tone.
The Yamaha FS720S is built to the same dimensions as the entry-level FS700S. Like the FS700S, it boasts a solid Sitka spruce top but the FS720S is further upgraded with mahogany back and sides and cream-colored binding on the body and neck.
We stock the FS720S in two finishes: A nice Dusk Sun Red sunburst (shown at left), and gloss black (shown below).
The FS720S 'BL' is the gloss-black version of the FS720S described above.
We call this the "perfect first guitar", a 1/2 size steel string instrument that works well for a younger student or petite teen. We also recommend the FG Junior for adults looking for a reliable travel guitar.
The FG Junior is no toy. Constructed of laminated meranti and spruce, this is a durable instrument that can take some abuse from less-than-careful youngsters. But at the same time, it is an instrument with good tone and a satisfying playability.
We set up each FG Junior just as we do our full-sized guitars, ensuring optimum playability.
Many 1/2-size guitars out there are more like toys. The FG Junior, by contrast, is a solid instrument that won't disappoint.
The APX-T2 is the perfect fractional-size guitar for the junior player who is looking for their first acoustic-electric guitar.
Like the FG Junior, the APX-T2 is no toy. It plays respectably as an acoustic and is suitable for students taking guitar lessons. But plug it in to an amp and the APX-T2 is ready for the stage!
The built-in tuner is a nice extra feature, too, saving you the extra $25 cost of a standlone digital tuner.
We stock the APX-T2 in a classy red sunburst finish.
The APX500 is a unique instrument — a thinline small-bodied acoustic/electric with a cutaway, nato back and sides, and a spruce top. The guitar is equipped with a System 65 piezo pickup and preamp with a built-in tuner.
This is our most rugged Yamaha acoustic/electric. It's great for traveling, outdoor gigs, or anywhere you need a compact acoustic/electric instrument that you won't need to worry about.
This is the electrified version of our best-selling acoustic, the FS700S. It is a small-bodied acoustic/electric with a cutaway, nato back and sides, a solid Sitka spruce top, and rosewood bridge and fingerboard.
The guitar is equipped with a System 55T pickup system with a built-in tuner.
You can't go wrong with this one!
The FSX730SC is another great small-bodied acoustic/electric. Just as the FG730S acoustic is a step up in construction and finish from the FG720S, the FSX730SC is similar to the FSX700SC above but adds a rosewood back and sides, an abalone rosette, and an upgraded ART-1 pickup system with built-in tuner.
The FGX700SC is our most affordable dreadnaught-sized solid top Yamaha acoustic/electric. Based on the acoustic FG700S, it features a nato back and sides, a solid Sitka spruce top, and rosewood bridge and fingerboard. The cutaway Dreadnaught-size body is equipped with a System 55T pickup with built-in tuner.
This guitar is a great choice for the aspiring performer.
The FGX720SCA is a dreadnaught-size acoustic-electric cutaway with a solid Sitka spruce top like the FGX700SC above, but upgrades the sides and back to mahogany and adds cream-colored binding with black pinstripe purfling around the body and neck. The guitar is equipped with a System 55T pickup with built-in tuner.
This model is available in natural finish or brown sunburst (FGX-720SCA 'BS', pictured).
The Yamaha L-Series is a step above their FG and FS guitars with better materials and more personal attention involved in the building process.
We stock the entry level guitars in the L series: the LL6M and LS6M. Both models have mahogany backs and sides with cream binding, solid Engelmann spruce tops for better bass clarity, ebony bridges, ebony fingerboards for smooth playability, and gold-tone die-cast tuning machines.
If you are looking for smooth playability and a big sound but want to keep the price tag under $500, the Yamaha L-series are the instruments for you.
The LL6M, pictured to the right, is the dreadnaught size member of the family. The LS6M, pictured below, is the slightly smaller 'concert' size instrument.
See the LL6M above for a detailed description of the Yamaha L-series.
The LS6M, pictured to the left, is our smaller-bodied L-series instrument.
This is a Flamenco-style classical guitar. It is constructed with cypress back and sides, a solid European spruce top, a 2-inch nut, and a rosewood fingerboard.
A bit brighter-sounding than a typical classical guitar, this instrument is excellent for the sharp strumming attack characteristic of Flamenco music. To accommodate aggressive strumming, the guitar is equipped with double pickguards.
The CG122MSH is a full size classical guitar with a solid Engelmann spruce top, nato sides and back, and a 2-inch nut. The matte finish has a nicely understated effect.
Spruce delivers a crispness and projection that many players particularly appreciate. An excellent affordable choice for the beginning to intermediate classical player.
The C40 is a durable full-size classical guitar. It has a meranti back and sides, a spruce top, and a 2-inch nut.
This is our most affordable full-size nylon string guitar.
We offer Yamaha nylon-string classical guitars in a series of fractional sizes.
The CS-40 is imilar to the C40 above but 7/8 scale with a 1-7/8 inch nut. This size is perfect for someone like the teen player who is looking for a classical guitar a bit under full-size.
The CGS103A is a 3/4 scale classical guitar with construction similar to the C40. Its 1-7/8 inch nut width makes it easier for a smaller player to reach around the neck.
The CGS102A is a 1/2 scale classical with construction similar to the C40. It also has a 1-7/8 inch nut. A best seller, this and the FG Jr are ideal choices for children.
A ukulele-size guitar, how cool! The Guitalele is tuned in the same intervals as a guitar but higher in pitch, from A-to-A instead of from E-to-E. Its higher pitch makes it sound much like a ukulele but the standard guitar string intervals mean your familiar chord fingerings work just fine. At under $100, this is a sure winner!
